Aloha! My name is Tioni, I blog about keto friendly recipes with a Hawaii influence as well as keto friendly dining out in Hawaii. Today’s blog is all about sweeteners. I have been living the ketogenic lifestyle for about a year now and I have tried a few sweeteners. I am going to list all of the sweeteners here and rank them from best to my least favorite. Here we go!
Allulose – The Best Keto Sweetener
In my opinion, allulose has been the best keto sweetener! It is a little less sweet than regular sugar, so you need to use a little extra. For instance, if your recipe calls for 1 cup of sugar, I would use 1 and 1/3 cup of sugar. Or, if your sweet tooth isn’t too bad, just stick with the 1:1 ratio (I have done that too and it worked out great for me). Here are the different brands that I have tried. They are all equally great!

Erythritol – The Okay Keto Sweetener
Erythritol is Dax’s least favorite keto sweetener! It has a “cooling effect” that takes place when you consume it. Another way to describe it is that it has a similar taste to a cool menthol. It doesn’t bother me as much as it bothers Dax but we try to avoid it whenever possible. Here are the versions and brands that I’ve tried.
Anthony’s Erythritol Granules (I personally think this is the best one out of the list I have here. You will definitely get more for your money with this brand of erythritol. It cannot be found in Hawaii stores, so you will have to get it online).
Swerve Sweetener (You can find this brand locally in Hawaii, but it will be expensive and the packages are small. I found it better to buy the “trio” through Amazon which comes with granular, confectioners, and brown versions. Perfect for the person that loves to make keto dessert).
Monk Fruit – The Keto Sweetener I Have Been Avoiding Completely
Monk Fruit is the one keto sweetener that I just can’t get with. It was one of the very first sweeteners that I tried when I restarted my keto lifestyle last year and I did not like the taste at all! I guess I have to try this one again since I have been sugar free for a year now. My keto friends have told me that a monk fruit blend is a good starting point, so maybe I will try this route next. I will definitely update this blog when I end up trying this again. For now, I don’t have any links to share as I can’t ever remember which one I tried.
