Aloha & Welcome to My Keto Blog!
Welcome to Hawaiian Keto Girl, where I transform local Hawaii recipes into keto friendly options. Today’s recipe is a Hawaii favorite and can be found at your favorite local Okazuya. Okazuyas are usually small family owned and operated lunch shops with a variety of small side dishes that are the local-style Japanese delicatessen, Chinese, and Hawaiian influence. My husband and I enjoy visiting Masa & Joyce Okazuya in Kaneohe, Fukuya near UH Manoa, and Tanioka’s in Waipahu! My FAVORITE okazuya is located in my hometown, Hilo, called Kawamoto’s. Whenever visiting home, I always visit Kawamoto’s and get my fix. Since adopting the sugar free keto lifestyle, it is needless to say that we have definitely missed enjoying our favorites.
Keto In Hawaii – Okazuya Style
Quite honestly, okazuya has got to be one of the main things that I miss having! I brainstormed one day and it came to me! So I got to work and recreated the ever famous “Corned Beef Hash Patties.” Luckily, corned beef is low carb, so I had to figure out how to substitute the potato. I used cauliflower and have found that frozen cauliflower works best! The taste of this recipe is reminiscent of okazuya style corned beef hash patties. I promise, it is so ono!
Two things to note when making this recipe:
1) Use frozen cauliflower. Fresh cauliflower will be too soft and it will fall apart.
2) Make sure all excess water is removed from frozen cauliflower before mixing all the ingredients together. If not, it will fall apart and also create a lot of splashing oil when frying the patties.
I think a cheesecloth would be perfect for wringing out the water. I just purchased this cheesecloth and will let you know what I think about it in future videos! That being said, please be sure to subscribe to our youtube channel for more keto, sugar free, and low carb Hawaii inspired recipes and dining out!
Let’s get into this recipe!
